Affiliate Marketing Strategies – Two Approaches That Work

Please Share 🙂

Affiliate Marketing is all about finding products to recommend – and then recommending them.

There are a couple of challenges and variations to the concept. I’m going to write about two of these. While there are differences in the two approaches, they have some basics in common.

The basics:

1) Find a great product (or service).

It’s essential to find something that works. You want happy customers, not refund requests. After all, you don’t want to have to return your commissions.

2) Make sure the product is in demand

No matter how fantastic the product may be, if no one’s looking for it, it’ll be a hard sell. And it’s not always as easy as it looks. I have come across surprising contrasts. After a good degree of success with one product, I started promoting a similar product to a matching audience, and have gotten no takers.

Why? Beats me. Either they’re not as willing to buy, or they’re not responding to the product quite the same way, or one aspect of the original product that’s not included in the second product makes a huge difference in conversion.

So the lesson is – try to promote a range of products. Some will work better than others.

The product is only part of the equation. You also want to make sure that the affiliate program is set up well. Plus, you may be interested in how quickly they pay…

3) Add Traffic

Yup. That’s essential. Send traffic to that page, or else, nothing much will happen. That traffic can come from your list, or from your articles, or videos, or any number of sources. You may want to check out these…

But traffic, while essential, is not today’s key topic. Today I wanted to look at two different ways to approach affiliate marketing.

So here they are, the two approaches I was going to talk about today:

Approach one: Promoting popular products

This approach, promoting popular but lowish priced products, is introduced in the free report you can find here:

It’s a free report that gives you some great tips for affiliate marketing and also offers a “done-for-you” solution to the previously mentioned problems.

The brain behind this project is Kevin Riley, an expert product creator and marketer who now lives in Japan. I have a number of his products, including this one, and he always delivers the goods.

For this project, he selects great products that are in demand, and creates a lead generation report that you can give away. That’s it for the basic plan, but for just $10 more, you can get a done-for-you squeeze page (also known as lead capture page), an autoresponder sequence, and detailed instructions for how to put it all together. All you have to do is add traffic. It’s definitely worth it.

Approach two: Go for the big bucks!

Someone has said that it’s just as easy to promote high priced products than low priced products, but you’ll make much more money with the high priced ones!

Obviously, you’ll have to aim for a different market, but since many of those higher priced products are highly specialized, that shouldn’t be too hard.

There’s one big challenge though… you’d have to overcome the sticker shock. Some of these products can cost thousands of dollars (and even hundreds of thousands of dollars. Imagine the commissions!

But if you don’t believe they sell, you’re not going to sell any.

I think this ebook cover needs to be redone, as does the whole site – and it’s first on my agenda…

The content is great though! You’ll find out about the myths of affiliate marketing – and why most people work for peanuts when they could be going after mucho moolah. The good thing is – there’s not nearly as much competition, because that attitude is very common.

What’s on the other side of the report, if you choose to go for the offer? A series of short videos that show you exactly how to look for and find those premium affiliate programs and how to apply for them.

There’s one (small?) disadvantage to those high priced programs – most of them take a month or two to pay. The ones in Kevin’s program all pay within a few weeks at most. Some of them pay even faster.

The package also includes a guide on affiliate marketing plus a guide on how to stay on the good side of the FTC.

For the traffic, I’d still recommend…

Anyway, there you have it.

Which one is better? I find both of them excellent approaches, and they complement each other very well.

I’d definitely go for the big fish, but it’s not a bad idea to set up a few “funnels” for a few popular lower-priced affiliate products! It’s not an “either/or” thing! Hedge your bets…

On the other hand, if you’re a bit timid, you might want to go with option #1 for the time being, until you’ve built up your confidence…
