Are YOU Making These Affiliate Marketing Mistakes?

1) You don’t know enough about the product you recommend

The first, biggest, and most common mistake is that marketers don’t really know the product they recommend.

Sure, it can get expensive to buy every product you want to recommend, yet consider the cost of recommending a product that doesn’t live up to the promises made on the sales page! The best strategy is to recommend products (and services) you use yourself. At the very least, buy the new product and check it out thoroughly.

2) You recommend bad products: The most deadly of all Affiliate Marketing Mistakes

I have just three words for that: “Don’t do it!” Recommending bad products is an extension of the first mistake, and one that can easily happen if you don’t thoroughly check out any product you recommend, BEFORE you recommend it.

There are many ways in which a product can fall short:

It fails to live up to the promises on the sales page
It doesn’t work as advertised
It requires costly upsells in order to work as advertised
It isn’t thorough enough in the details to allow people to implement it
The support staff is unresponsive, so users can’t get the help they need to make it work.

3) You try to sell the product to the wrong people

Another big mistake that can ruin your success is trying to sell the product to the wrong people. Someone who expressed interest in getting scholarships may or may not be interested in weight loss programs. And even if they are, they may not be open to weight loss advice from you – after all, they came to you for scholarship advice.

So try to keep your recommendations consistent with the interests of your list, or the interests of your website, your followers, or your friends.

4) You fail to warm up your prospects

Even if you send your promotion to the right list, or publish it on the right website, you can still miss out on commissions by sending your prospects to the sales page without adequately preparing them.

Instead, create a “pre-sell” page, one where you talk about the problem that will be solved by the product you’re trying to sell

5) You promote too many different products

The fifth mistake is promoting too many different products. You may think that there are benefits to spreading the odds, and to a certain extent that’s true. But if you flip flop from one product to the next, recommending a different one every day, your list will lose faith in you quickly.

Not only that, but mistake number one and two are most common when you’re recommending so many products that you don’t have time to adequately check them out. Plus, if you recommend several products a week, you may feel that it’s just too expensive to buy them all first, and so you’re more prone to skip that step.

That’s no excuse. Instead, be more selective. And before you decide whether YOU want to buy a product to check it out, why not do a pre-screen at my favorite Clickbank Search Tool where you can check out the refund rate.

After all, what good is a sale when your commissions evaporate faster than they appeared in the first place?

If you’re making one or more of the above mistakes, just stop right now. Instead, do the opposite of what you’ve seen above: Recommending a limited number of great products you know, trust, and personally use will eliminate mistakes 1, 2, and 5. Recommending them to the right people, and being upfront about why you think they might benefit from the products will eliminate mistakes 3 and 4.

Follow these principles and avoid the mistake, and before you know it, your affiliate marketing mistakes will be history and you’ll be well on your way to affiliate marketing success.

So how can you make a living with 5 bucks a day?

The key is to finish a project. It doesn’t have to be the project to end all projects, but to work, it must be finished. A half-finished or abandoned project won’t bring in any money, no matter how brilliant it may be.

Here’s the step-by-step process:

Step 1: Make the commitment to create one project a week that can bring in five dollars a day and complete it.

Step 2: Select your first project.

Step 3: Complete it and send traffic to it.

Step 4: Repeat.

Picking your five bucks a day projects

So what kinds of projects can you pick? There are a lot of options:

You can offer a service to get you off to a fast start, such as writing articles. Or you can pick an affiliate project and start promoting it with article marketing and social media marketing. Or you can create a guide where you explain something you know how to do and turn it into a product.

There are a lot of different things you can do. The key is to make them manageable and to complete them. And then… wash, rinse, repeat.

How to make money with Teleseminars

You’re probably familiar with the three regular ways to make money with teleseminars:

• Charge for your teleseminars
• Use teleseminars to promote a paid product of some kind (which could include your own paid teleseminar series or an affiliate product)
• Turn your teleseminar into a product and sell it, usually bundled with transcripts and a worksheet

But that’s just the start.

Five MORE ways to make money with Teleseminars

There are quite a few more possibilities. Let’s look at five out-of-the-box ways to make more money with teleseminars:

1) Turn your teleseminars into articles and books

A teleseminar is usually filled with valuable information. Why not have it transcribed and repurpose the result. You can excerpt quite a few articles that you can publish in article directories, and use them as lead generators to get more people onto your list.

You can also turn the transcripts into a book, either an ebook, a Kindle or Nook book, or even a physical book. If the teleseminar isn’t quite long enough for a physical book, just create a series of teleseminars and combine them into the book manuscript.

2) Create home study courses

If you want to create a product with a higher perceived value, why not assemble a series of teleseminars, possibly with transcripts and worksheets, into a home study course.

You can easily sell that from your website, from the back of the room.

3) Package them into “Best of” sets

There’s an additional way to monetize your teleseminars. Just assemble them into “Best of” sets, or maybe themed sets. You can sell them easily – or even use them as a valuable bonus for a higher-priced course or coaching program.

4) Create teleseminars in advance

Who said you had to have a live audience to do a teleseminar. Why not just get on the phone when inspiration strikes you, and create a recording. Depending on the teleseminar service you’re using, it’s very easy to create teleseminars in advance, and then schedule them to run during the scheduled time.

You won’t even have to be there if you’re not planning to have a Q&A session. Not only that, but you can host that same teleseminar over and over again, making money with the backend, and building your list.

5) CD-of-the-month club

Affiliate Marketing seems so simple. You don’t need your own product, your own sales page, or even your own website. All you need to do is send people to your affiliate link and rake in the cash. Well, not so fast…

Some of it is true. You really do not need your own product and sales page to get your start in affiliate marketing. However, if you don’t do anything but send people to affiliate links, you’ll leave a lot of money on the table, and your business may be very short-lived.

Here’s a step-by-step guide for getting off on the right foot.

Step 1: Pick a good product

That’s the most crucial step, and one often ignored by over-eager affiliate marketers. You need to know the product you promote, and you need to know that it’s good.

How would you know that? Generally by buying it first and checking it out thoroughly. If it involves some activities, take it through its paces. Impressed? Then go ahead and promote it in good conscience. Not so impressed? You may want to request a refund.

Step 2: Know your audience

When it comes to promoting your affiliate product, make sure you send it to the right audience. If you send a product about Forex to people looking for alternative health remedies, you won’t get many sales. Instead, you’ll find that you’ll have a lot of disgruntled list members on your hands, and possibly a lot of unsubscribes.

Step 3: Build a list

Just because you can send people directly to the sales page through your affiliate link doesn’t mean you should. There are two things you may want to do. Here, we talk about the first one: you should build a list.

This means that you’ll create a related product that would be of great interest to the people who are also interested in the affiliate product you’d like to promote, and offer it to them for free, in exchange for their name and email address. Only once they have opted in (and possibly confirmed, depending on your autoresponder service), you should send them on to the sales page.

Not only will this process help you build a list to which you’ll be able to promote other products – and eventually sell your own, but you’ll also sell more of the affiliate products as well.

Step 4: Pre-sell

The second thing you should do is to pre-sell. Here’s what this means: You basically get them all excited about their need for the product you’re trying to sell, then present them that product as the perfect solution, so when they arrive on the sales page, they’re so excited about the product they’re much more likely to buy.

And there you have it. Pick a great product, build a list, and pre-sell your audience before you send them to the sales page, and your profits are going to soar.

Why I Love Tiffany Dow’s PLR

PLR can come in really handy. It saves you a lot of legwork when you’re creating product, because the research has been done for you already. But only if you have a great PRL resource…

Fortunately, I’ve got that covered. My favorite Great PLR Resource is Tiffany Dow! She’s a former journalist and not only an outstanding writer (and former ghostwriter to the gurus!), but also an excellent researcher, so I know she’s got her facts straight!

That’s not always the case. I have come across PLR that was, well, let’s just say really, really bad. Very thin on content, and the accuracy also highly questionable. Plus the writing – ouch!

Once you have found a great PLR resource, you should put it to good use.

He had me when he talked about it on the webinar (in a lot more detail than on the video above). Because I’ve been there.
