How to Add Twitter Badges to Your Blog

Sunday, September 13th, 2009

A few people have asked me how to get those cute Twitter badges posted so that they’re clickable links.

Here’s the step-by-step.

First the illustration:

And now the explanation:

First, you have to find the badges you like.  You can go to one of mine or to the link posted a few posts down (on the other post about Twitter badges) and go straight to the source for lots more where mine came from.

Here’s the step-by-step:

1) Control click (Mac) or right click (PC) to “save as” the image on your desk top. Let’s say your image is called image1.jpg

2) Go to your server and create an “images” folder on your server if you don’t already have one.

2) Upload the image to your server, into the image folder, for example to MyWebsite.com/images

3) Switch to your HTML editing view and find the spot where you want to add the Twitter badge.

4) Add the following code to your blog

<a href=”http://twitter.com/YourTwitterNameHere” target=”_blank”><img src=”http://www.MyWebsite.com/images/image1.jpg” alt=”Twitter Badge 1″></a>

Obviously, you need to replace YourTwitterNameHere with YOUR Twitter name, and MyWebsite.com with YOUR website URL, and images1.jpg with YOUR image name.  You can leave out the alt=”Twitter Badge 1″ if you like. Make sure you close the bracket though with a > even if you leave it out.

Like so:

<a href=”http://twitter.com/YourTwitterNameHere” target=”_blank”><img src=”http://www.MyWebsite.com/images/image1.jpg”></a>

Note: some of the spaces look bigger than they’re supposed to be in the above codes.  Just leave A SINGLE space where there are spaces.

And you can add a bit about the desired size of the image if you want.

That’s it.

Or not.  One last thing.  If you want to make sure that Twitter opens in a new window, then add the following code into the first set of brackets:

target=”_blank”  like so:

<a href=”http://Twitter.com/YourTwitterNameHere” target=”_blank”>

I actually already inserted it into the example, but that’s what it is.

Now THAT’s it.

If you don’t have a web host yet, I do highly recommend my favorite one:

They’re VERY reasonably priced and have fantastic customer service — 24/7! I love them and recommend them highly!

And if you need a domain name, I recommend GoDaddy.com

Let me know (by way of comments) if this is helpful and/or if you have any questions.

Twitter Badges for your Blog :-)

Monday, September 7th, 2009

I just discovered Twitter badges!  One of my clients wanted one and so I researched them, and oooohh, there are so many really cute Twitter badges out there I can hardly decide which one I want.

I’m still in the selection stage, but in the meantime, I’m putting on up that will actually lead you to one of my favorite sites with some of the coolest badges around.

They rank from the absolutely adorable to the, well, slightly morbid ;-)

Check these out:

Or how about this one:

And here’s the slightly morbid one:

And another cute twitter badge:

Where did I find them?

P.S.: I’ve found a few other cool Twitter resources recently and I’ll write about those later.
